Portland is a community of nearly 7000 people on the eastern edge of
central Indiana. Portland offers an exceptional environment for
industial, commercial and personal growth.
Situated at the junction of US 27, Indiana 67, and Indiana 26, 45
minutes south of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and 35 miles northeast of
Muncie, Indiana, just ten miles from the Ohio state line. Portland
enjoys a fine locale that blends the economy of the rural area with
culture and quality of life.
For recreation, there are 55 acres of city parks, 12 public tennis
courts, a public swimming pool, a public eighteen-hole golf course,
numerous bowling leagues, softball leagues, summer swim team, the
Hines-Inman Peewee Football stadium, football, little league
baseball, youth soccer leagues, a semi-pro baseball team, and 17 high
school sports. The Jay County Community Center offers a wide variety
of sports activities for the entire family. The new 32-acre Hudson
park, which will include a lake and outdoor amphitheater, will soon
be under construction.
The Jay County Fair has received recognition as the "best county fair
in Indiana" by the Indiana Fair Association. A summer Bluegrass
Festival, A Vintage Bike Show, and the world's largest Gas Engine and
Antique Tractor Show bring well over 100,000 visitors to Portland
during the summer months.
