three county commissioners, auditor, treasurer, recorder, clerk of courts, probate court judge, common
pleas court judge, prosecuting attorney, sheriff, engineer, and coroner. The city of Greenville and the

and clerk.
Life and Rescue Squads Darke County is served by a network of nine rescue squads,
each independently run and financed, but cooperating in purchasing new equipment, obtaining grant
subsidies and providing training. The chiefs and administrators from each squad meet monthly. Squads
are located in Ansonia, Arcanum, Bradford, Gettysburg, Greenville, Osgood, New Madison, Versailles
and Union City.
Jobs and Family Services In July, 2000, the State of Ohio combined the Department of Human
Services, Ohio Bureau of Employment Services and Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) into Jobs and Family
Services, a one-stop concept for those needing to upgrade employability and childcare skills.
The Darke County Jobs and Family Services agency provides workforce development training, financial
and medical assistance to families and individuals, employability
assessments, educational activities and job search skills training. Children Services protects
children from abuse, neglect, and dependency through educational and protective services.
Child Support Enforcement collects and distributes child support. Adult Protective Services
are also provided.
CORSP Council on Rural Services Programs include child day care, Head Start, runaway and homeless
youth, network for youth, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and diversion. Their services are provided
to at-risk and/or disadvantaged people of all ages.
Health Department The Darke County Health Department services fall into four general areas:
recording vital statistics, public health nursing, home health nursing and sanitation. The Ohio
state system of vital statistics includes, among other things, the registration of births and deaths.
